Cuando el equipo de The Sevillaner me contactó para encargarme una de sus portadas me hizo mucha ilusión. Es un orgullo participar en este proyecto que fomenta la cultura y la comunidad creativa de la ciudad de Sevilla, en la que nací y a la que adoro.

When the team at The Sevillaner reached out to invite me to illustrate one of their covers, I was so excited. It's an honor to contribute to a project that celebrates culture and the creative community in Seville, the city where I was born and a place I'll always love.
Estos son los bocetos de las propuestas iniciales que envié. A la derecha, una ilustración inspirada en la leyenda de la Cabeza del Rey Don Pedro, una de las leyendas más conocidas de la ciudad. A la izquierda, el boceto de la propuesta seleccionada, inspirada en una experiencia personal:
"No se me olvidará nunca el aroma fantasma a azahar que me venía de tanto en tanto cuando estuve viviendo en Barcelona. No había naranjos alrededor pero de repente me llegaba el olor y me recordaba todo lo que en ese momento tenía tan lejos. Me recordaba a todo lo que para mí es Sevilla: las amistades, la familia, sus barrios, su gastronomía, sus fiestas… Quise inmortalizar mi recuerdo en esta portada y rendir homenaje al aroma de nuestros naranjos, justo ahora que tememos perder los árboles que dan alma a nuestra ciudad"

These are the initial concept sketches I submitted. On the right, an illustration inspired by the legend of the Head of King Don Pedro, one of Seville's best-known legends. On the left, the sketch for the selected cover, inspired by a personal experience:
"I'll never forget the phantom scent of orange blossom that would drift my way from time to time while I was living in Barcelona. There weren't any orange trees nearby, yet suddenly I'd catch that familiar fragrance, and it would remind me of everything that felt so far away at the time. It reminded me of everything Seville means to me: my friends, my family, its neighborhoods, its food, its festivals... I wanted to capture that memory in this cover and pay tribute to the scent of our orange trees, especially now that we fear losing the trees that give our city its soul."
